Windows 7 - Disable Windows Startup Repair as Default Option

Do you have a problem whereby you keep switching off your HTPC accidentally before it has shutdown properly?

This is especially a problem when you have your HTPC connected to one of those energy saving plugs such as

After your HTPC has hard shutdown, you will then be greeted with this message upon restart:

Unfortunately the Startup Repair option is the default, which means you have to go grab your keyboard quick from the draw and select the Start Windows Normally option. Now this is a pain especially when it comes to programming the rest of the family to follow these instructions.

The best solution for a HTPC however, is to run the following command as administrator from the windows 7 command prompt:

bcdedit /set {default} recoveryenabled No

This will disable Startup Repair from automatically booting when there is a problem.

If you wish to re-enable it just change the No to Yes in the above command and re-run it.
